As the first President of the Allen Kiwanis Club I remember that first year as tremendously exciting. I was a Vice President at a local bank when Mickey Christakos and a few others got the ball rolling and talked to me about being the President, and off we went. We had great fun working on service projects and fund raising events and got very involved in an Allen community that was very different from today. We had a great sense of satisfaction doing cleanup work at the Allen cemetery about once a month, and added more members to the Club almost every month. I truly enjoyed being a part of the Kiwanis Club, and was very sorry when the bank where I worked closed and I had to find employment in Dallas that meant I couldn't attend Kiwanis meetings anymore. I look forward to coming to the reception this Friday.
